A trapezium has two parallel sides of length 5cm and 9cm. If the area is 91cm², find the distance between the parallel sides
A. 13 cm
B. 4 cm
C. 6 cm
D. 7 cm
QUICK ANSWER…
A
DETAILS…
If a trapezium has two parallel sides of length 5cm and 9cm, and if the area is 91cm², the distance between the parallel sides is
Area of a trapezium = ½ h(a + b)
Where:
h = distance between the parallel lines =?
a = length of one of the lines = 5cm
b = length of the other line = 9cm
area was given as 91cm²
thus:
91 = ½ h(5 + 9)
91 = ½ h(14)
91 = 7h
h = 91/7 = 13cm
Now for the right answer to the above question:
- Option A is correct.
- Option B is not correct.
- C is not correct.
- D is not the correct answer.
KEY-POINTS…
