Distance travelled by wave = 50cm

Time of travel = 2s

Distance between two successive crests = wavelength = 5cm

Frequency of vibrator = ?

Speed of the wave can be directly calculated as:

Speed = distance/time = 50cm/2s = 25cm/s

Now, velocity of a wave = frequency X wavelength

Hence, frequency = velocity/wavelength = 25/5 = 5Hz

Now for the right answer to the above question:

  • No need to convert the distance from cm to m, this is because the wavelength too is given in cm.
