The fundamental reason for connecting home appliances to earth is to prevent shock hazards, it does this by conducting excess dangerous currents to the earth where it can be safely discharged without harming anybody.

- Option B is incorrect.
- C is incorrect. appliances will always be maintained at higher potential difference irrespective of earthing.
