To generate the initial simplex tableau, follow the following simple steps:
- Rearrange the first equation like this: p – 2x + 3y – z = 0
- Express the constraints in standard form by removing the inequality signs, but be careful when removing the inequality signs.
- If the inequality sign is ‘less or equal to’, you have to add slack in order to balance it.
- If the inequality sign is ‘greater or equal to’, you have to subtract excess and add artificial.
- If the constraint come already with ‘equal to sign’, then add artificial only.
- But in this case, it’s ‘less or equal to’, so, our problem is simpler, we add slack to each of the equation like this:
