For parallel lines, the slope of one is exactly the same to that of the other.

The general equation of a straight line is:

y = mx + c

where m = slope (gradient) of the line, and c = intercept on y axis.

Therefore, the slope m of another line which is parallel to the first line is also = m

To solve the above question,

The slope of the line p = 5x + 3 is 5

Therefore, the equation of another line which is parallel to it is p = 5x + c, hence, w = 5.
