Set theory – 2017 JAMB-UTME mathematics past question 21

If U = {1, 2, 3, ………10} and N = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10},

Find N´

A. {1, 2, 3, 5, 9}

B. {1, 3, 5, 7, 9}

C. {1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9}

D. {1, 3, 5, 7}

SOLUTION…  

If the universal set U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10}

And N = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10}

Therefore, complement of N which are elements in the universal set not found in N = N´ = {1, 3, 5, 7, 9}

Now for the right answer to the above question:

1. Option A is incorrect.
2. Option B is correct.
3. C is incorrect.
4. D is not the correct answer.
