QuizTablet Community! 3x – 5y = 9

6x – 4y = 12

• A. 3/4, 1
• B. 3/4, -1
• C. 4/3, -1
• D. 4/3, 1

C

SOLUTION…

3x – 5y = 9 ………………………………..eq1

6x – 4y = 12 ………………………………eq2

Dividing through eq2 by 2, we have:

3x – 5y = 9 ………………………………..eq1

3x – 2y = 6 ………………….….….………eq2

Performing eq1 – eq2, we have:

(3x – 3x) + (-5y – (-2y)) = 9 – 6

0 + (2y – 5y) = 3

-3y = 3

Therefore, y = 3/-3 = -1

Substituting y = -1 into eq1, we have:

3x – 5y = 9

3x – 5(-1) = 9

3x + 5 = 9

3x = 9 – 5

3x = 4

Therefore x = 4/3

Hence, x = 4/3, y = -1

Now for the right answer to the above question:

1. Option A is incorrect.
2. Option B is incorrect.
3. C is correct.
4. D is not the correct answer.
