The angle of elevation of the top of a tree from a point on the ground 60m away from the foot of the tree is 78
. Find the height of the tree correct to the nearest whole number.
- A. 148m
- B. 382m
- C. 248m
- D. 282m
QUICK ANSWER…
D
SOLUTION…
Data given:
Angle of elevation = 78
Distance of the tree from the point of reference = 60m
Height of the tree = H = ?

Using soh-cah-toa,
We’re dealing with opposite and adjacent, we will use TOA,
Tan78 = H/60
H = 60tan78 = 282.3 = 282m
Now for the right answer to the above question:
- Option A is incorrect.
- Option B is incorrect.
- C is incorrect.
- D is the correct answer.
