      Although the energy content of 1 gram of protein and carbohydrate is almost equal, carbohydrates release their energies to the body quicker than proteins. What this implies is that the time it will take for 1 gram of protein to completely release its energy will be sufficient for carbohydrate to use up more than 1 gram of its energy.

        If it takes 1 hour for carbohydrate to release 10 calories of energy, it will take more than 1 hour for protein to release the same 10 calories of energy. That is why it appears carbohydrates gives more energy than proteins.
