The process by which salt and water reacted in a limited way to form an acid or a base is?

A. Neutral process

B. Basic acidic process

C. Hydrolysis

D. Sublimation

QUICK ANSWER…

C

DETAILS…

The process by which salt and water reacted in a limited way to form an acid or a base is called hydrolysis reaction.

Hydrolysis simply means any chemical reaction where water is one of the reactants.

When an acidic salt dissolves in water to react and form an acid, or when basic salt does the same to form a base, we can safely claim that hydrolysis has taken place.

Now for the right answer to the above question:

  1. Option A is incorrect. sorry, not a neutral process.
  2. Option B is not correct.  not called a basic-acid process.
  3. C is correct. not pre-actinium elements.
  4. D is not the correct answer. Not a relevant option.

KEY-POINTS…

You may please note these/this:

  • Hydrolysis = any reaction involving dissociation of water.
  • Hydrolysis = opposite of dehydration.
  • Weak acid salts or weak basic salts can hydrolyze in water to form basic and acidic solutions respectively.
