When impurities are added to semiconductors, the conductivity

A. increases

B. increases then decreases

C. decreases

D. remains constant

Pure semiconductors are not desirable in construction of electronics due to their poor level of conductivity. To improve the quality and conductivity of pure semiconductors, certain impurities are introduced in a process known as DOPING.

Now for the right answer to the above question:

  1. Option A is correct. the doping introduces free electrons and holes which are the main carriers of electricity in semiconductors.
  2. Option B is incorrect. it increases and never decreases.
  3. C is incorrect.
  4. D is not the correct answer. it does not remain constant.

You may please note these/this:

  • A semiconductor doped with impurities will conduct electricity better and faster than a pure semiconductor.
