Which of the following metals is the most essential in the regulation of blood volume, blood pressure and osmotic equilibrium?

  • A. Zinc
  • B. Manganese
  • C. Sodium
  • D. Iron




The human blood is filtered in the kidney to regulate excess sodium, water, and other substances.

The kidney control blood volume by regulating and adjusting the amount of sodium in the blood.

Now blood volume in turn controls blood pressure and osmotic equilibrium. Changes in blood volume due to regulation of sodium content in the blood, results in changes in osmotic equilibrium and pressure with which blood is pumped in and out of the heart.

Now for the right answer to the above question:

  1. Option A is incorrect.
  2. Option B is incorrect.
  3. C is correct.
  4. D is not the correct answer. Although iron is an integral component of blood, it does not concern itself with regulation of blood volume and pressure, instead it is an integral component of oxygen transporting hemoglobin in the red-blood cells.
