Which of the following statements about defects of vision is/are correct?

  • I. For a long-sighted person, close objects appear blurred
  • II. For a short-sighted person, distant objects appear blurred
  • III. Short sight is corrected by using a pair of converging lenses

A. I only

B. II only

C. I and II only

D. II and III only

QUICK ANSWER…

C

DETAILS…

Let’s analyze each point as follows:

  • Long-sighted people see far objects clearly, but have nearer objects blurred.
  •  Short-sighted people see near objects clearly, but have far objects blurred.
  • Short-sighted persons have their images forming just before the retina. To correct this, they would need diverging lenses to diverge the ray so that the image will be formed on the retina.

Now for the right answer to the above question:

  1. A is not the right answer. II too is correct.
  2. B is incorrect. I too is correct.
  3. C is correct. I and II is correct.
  4. D is incorrect. III is wrong.

KEY-POINTS…

You may please note this/these:

  • Long-sighted people see far objects clearly, but have near objects blurred.
  • Short-sighted persons see near objects clearly, but have far objects blurred.
  • Long-sightedness is corrected with a converging lens (convex lens).
  • Short-sightedness is corrected with a divergent lens (concave lens).
